I am an active participant in the local music scene and have the opportunity to help promote shows and festivals that my friends put together.
The Camp Fire benefit show was a concert we put on in January of 2019. I put out the original flyer, and reached out to my friends at Berkley Illustration to collaborate on a commemorative poster we could sell at the event. Thanks to promotion through a variety of channels I secured, the show was a massive success, raising more than $10,000 to support Camp Fire victims and the homeless population in Oakland.
Additionally, in my spare time I help my friends come up with promotional strategies for their music festivals. Burger Boogaloo is an irreverant punk and garage rock festival hosted by John Waters that takes place in Oakland’s Mosswood Park. For this event, we want to convey the fun of the music and environment, so the flyers are typically more colorful and harken back to previous generations.
Near Dark is a goth/metal festival that needs a more brooding, esoteric aesthetic. I overlaid the primary text with clouds and added a feather effect on the photo borders to add a etherial effect to the flyers.
